Polsat Box customers without Champions League station
Has Canal+ resumed talks with Polsat Box about the Canal+ Extra station? – No change from last week, so we are currently not conducting such negotiations with Cyfrowy Polsat – Kaniowski answers. Until now, Champions League matches were broadcast on Polsat Sport Premium channels. They were available not only on Polsat Box, but also on Canal+. However, both platforms completed the replacement of sports channels at the end of June. As a result of this decision, Polsat Box and Polsat Box Go customers also lost access to Canal+ Sport 3 and 4 channels with PKO BP Ekstraklasa.
In recent years, Canal+ and Polsat Box have strengthened their cooperation. Polsat Box added the following channels: Canal+ Sport 3, Canal+ Sport 4, Canal+ Domo, Canal+ Kuchnia, Planete+, Ale Kino+, MiniMini+, TeleToon+ and Novelas+. Polsat Sport Premium stations were added to Canal+, and Polsat and TV4 online to Canal+. Last June, “Sortownia”, a joint series of Canal+ and Polsat, premiered.
There was even speculation about a possible merger of the platforms. Especially since Polsat has registered the Polsat+ and Polsat Box+ trademarks with the Patent Office of the Republic of Poland. – Today there are two digital platforms, so there is room. We have strengthened our cooperation with Canal+, or rather, we have not tightened it, we have simply created specific programming projects for streaming services together. Of course, they also take their place on the platforms. It is simply higher quality content for our customers. Canal+ and Polsat Box. We are very pleased with this cooperation, said Maciej Stec, Vice President of Cyfrowy Polsat.
Will there be a return to negotiations?
The fact that new negotiations regarding the Canal+ Extra and Canal+ Sport 3 and 4 channels are possible is demonstrated by the recent addition of the channels Wydarzenia 24, Polsat Rodzina and Polsat Doku to Canal+. Therefore, both companies have not definitively ended their cooperation. Canal+, which has invested millions in additional sports rights, wants to acquire new subscribers and subscribers on this occasion. When this happens, it will be easier to reach an agreement with the competitor.
Cable networks and telecommunications operators that do not constitute direct competition are in a better position. Satellite TV is more popular in smaller cities, where there is no competition from cable networks. Satellite platforms do not offer fiber optic internet, so they are more vulnerable to churn from customers who opt for streaming services over their services. In this situation, each customer is worth their weight in gold and exclusive content attracts subscribers.
