Tuesday’s vote of 207 to 121 was a repeat of the Conservatives’ failed attempt last week to secure a snap election. Two small factions in Parliament sided with the minority government led by Trudeau and his Liberals.

Trudeau has been Prime Minister of the North American country since 2015. However, his popularity has declined significantly. In recent months, Trudeau has suffered a series of setbacks, including byelection defeats in two of his Liberal strongholds. In opinion polls, Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre leads by 20 percentage points.
