Staring at her newly unveiled Canada Post commemorative stamp, musician Sarah McLachlan says she feels incredibly proud to be Canadian.
He called the stamp launch a “moment that made me gasp,” adding that he views the stamp in the same way he views music: that it symbolizes connection and communication.
The BC-based singer-songwriter is a Grammy and Juno Award winner and has sold more than 40 million albums worldwide.
McLachlan was previously inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame in 2017, was made an officer of the Order of Canada in 1999 and was inducted into the Order of British Columbia in 2001. He will also be inducted into the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame on September 28.
The stamp launch ceremony took place at the Sarah McLachlan School of Music in Vancouver, a non-profit institution the singer founded in 2002 to provide inclusive, barrier-free access to music education for young people.

The painting features a stylized version of his signature and himself in front of a yellow background that features details from one of McLachlan’s art prints.
Acknowledging his commitment to Vancouver, Mayor Ken Sim also attended the event, where he unveiled a written proclamation from the city that September 17, 2024, will be Sarah McLachlan Day.
McLachlan said although he had received awards in the past, the stamp ranked “quite high” on his list.
“It still doesn’t feel real to see my face on a stamp, but it’s pretty cool,” he said at the ceremony, later calling it “pretty iconic.”
McLachlan spent the summer touring for the 30th anniversary of his breakthrough album, Groping Towards Ecstasy.
“I haven’t done a tour like that in 10 years, and it was really fun,” he told reporters on Tuesday.
The 30-stop North American tour, which kicked off in May, is scheduled to end in Victoria in November.
However, he noted, new music is on the way.
“I’ve been in the studio all week, [am] almost finished the new record and hopefully [there will be] “late spring release,” he said with a smile.
