Brazil won, this Tuesday (24) in Zurich (Switzerland), two medals at the Paralympic Road Cycling World Championships. The achievement was achieved in the handbike race (hand-operated bicycle), by Marcos Melo Júnior from Minas Gerais and Gilmara Sol do Rosário from São Paulo.

Brazil’s first achievement came in the H1 class, where Marcos Melo Júnior finished in 38 minutes 35s40 to take silver. Gold went to Fabrizio Cornegliani of Italy, in 35 minutes 59s70. Bronze went to Maxime Hordies of Belgium (38 minutes 45s19).

In the women’s H2 class, Gilmara Sol do Rosário of São Paulo clocked 28 minutes 50 seconds 16 to take bronze, while North American Katie Brim took gold (18 minutes 54 seconds 04) and Italy’s Roberta Amadeo took silver (23 minutes 00 seconds 39).

In this way, Brazil won a total of three medals in the competition, as last Monday (23), Lauro Chaman from São Paulo won silver in the C5 class (athletes competing on conventional bicycles) time trial.
