Bodnar is an experienced diplomat. In the years 2017-2021 he was deputy head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He is currently the ambassador to Turkey. He took up this post after the current Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, appointed a few days ago, Andriy Shibishe. Like Sybiha, Bodnar, 47, comes from the Tarnopol region. He is a graduate of Lviv University. He speaks fluent Polish. From 2006 to 2010 he worked at the embassy in Warsaw. As first secretary and counselor. He has been associated with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs since the beginning of his career.

In a 2021 interview with DGP, Bodnar argued that “there is chemistry between Presidents Duda and Zelensky” and “we talk about problems and solve them”. As he assured then: “a working group has been created between the Institutes of National Remembrance, which is working on the issue of exhumation in Ukraine and monuments in Poland”. His arrival in Poland can be seen as a continuation of the policy of ritual declarations between the two countries.
