Bloody day in the Middle East. Hundreds killed in Israeli airstrikes in Lebanon

Iranian President: Israel wants to drag us into war

After nearly a year of fighting in the Gaza Strip, Israel has shifted the focus of its military operations northward. The goal of the war now is to ensure that residents of northern Israel, who have been under attack by Hezbollah since Oct. 8, can return to their homes.

Monday is expected to be the bloodiest day in Lebanon since the 1975-1990 civil war.

Israel shifts focus of military operations to the north

The US State Department representative stated that America opposes the escalation of the conflict between Israel and Hezbollah. The US will consult with its allies on measures to prevent the spread of war in the Middle East.

Israel argues that the intensification of attacks on southern Lebanon is intended to force Hezbollah to agree to seek a diplomatic solution to the conflict.

On Monday night, Israel struck Beirut’s southern suburbs, targeting senior Hezbollah leader Ali Karaki, who was said to have survived the attack. But one of Hamas’s top commanders, Mahmoud al Nader, was believed to have been killed in the strike.
