Belenyuk said Usyk was detained at Krakow airport. Video

“Alexander Usyk was arrested at Krakow airport. The circumstances are becoming clearer,” he wrote.

Belenyuk also posted a video showing Usik being taken away somewhere. His hands appear to be handcuffed.

The boxer’s wife, Ekaterina Usik, said on Instagram Stories that nothing criminal happened.

“Everything is fine, everything is fine! Alexander will explain everything to you later. Nothing criminal,” he wrote.

Context

Usik became absolute in 2024 World heavyweight boxing champion. He is an ambassador for the United24 platform, which raises funds to help the Ukrainian army and civilians, as well as to rebuild cities.

On May 19, he defeated British Tyson Fury, taking the WBC world champion belt from him and becoming the absolute world boxing champion (the first in 25 years after Briton Lennox Lewis, who won the unification fight against Evander Holyfield in 1999). Before that, the Ukrainian held the WBA, WBO, IBO and IBF world heavyweight boxing champion belts.

In June, Usik vacated the IBF world title, so Usik’s rematch with Fury on December 21 in Saudi Arabia will not be for the overall champion’s title.
