Because of the “7-Nation Army”: Jack White Sues Donald Trump

Jack White (49), known as the White Stripes, and his ex-wife Meg White (49) have filed a lawsuit against Donald Trump (78), accusing the Republican presidential candidate of illegally using their song ‘Seven Nation Army’ in his campaign.

Jack White posted a screenshot of the front page of the lawsuit filed against Meg White in New York on his Instagram account. He commented on the post with the words, “This machine is suing fascists.”

Unauthorized use of ‘Seven Nation Army’

According to industry portal Variety, the indictment documents state that Trump did not seek the band’s permission or support for using the song, and that his campaign team did not respond to efforts to resolve the issue in court. According to the White Stripes, Trump and his staff knew that the use of the song was unauthorized and in violation of copyright law. Now, they are suing Trump and his team for damages.

According to Variety, Jack White had already threatened to sue the Trump campaign in late August after Trump’s deputy campaign manager Margo Martin used the song “Seven Nation Army” in a video of Trump taking the stage.

The lawsuit also alleges the White Stripes’ earlier criticism of Donald Trump during the 2016 campaign, when he used the phrase “seven-nation army.” They “are disgusted by this association.” The use of their song is “all the more offensive” because it “strongly rejects the policies and actions Defendants Trump has taken during his presidency, and the policies and actions he has proposed for his intended second term.”

Musicians are defending themselves against Trump and his campaign team

The White Stripes aren’t the only musicians who have publicly opposed the use of their music in the Trump campaign. Most recently, late soul musician Isaac Hayes (1942-2008) and Beyoncé’s (43) family member Celine Dion (56) have made headlines.
