B&B Love TVN new reality show about love with tourism in the background – opinions

“B&B Love” program formula

Broadcast from Monday to Thursday at 8:50 p.m., the program, based on the 2021 Dutch format “B&B vol liefde”, shows the daily lives of five single owners of “B&B” establishments: Alex and Wojtek in Zanzibar, Renata and Marta in Italy and Klemens in Georgia, whose singles visit in search of love and life’s adventure. During the program, each of the characters will be visited by 4 to 5 singles who may stay at the same time, with the length of the stay being decided by the participants themselves. Your guests will stay as long as both parties are interested in getting to know each other better.

“On site, singles get to know the owner’s life, his daily routine and the surroundings of the Bed & Breakfast. They help with daily tasks related to work at the establishment and spend their free time getting to know each other, discovering local culture, dating and enjoying tourist attractions. The program focuses on naturalness, so there are no strict and imposed rules. The only rule is honesty. in relation to the program’s formula.

How were the participants of “B&B Love” selected?

Many viewers are probably wondering what the singles and characters on “B&B Love” were selected for. As we discovered, the singles knew who they were going to and where in the world the production would take them. They knew the profiles of the owners, their photos, interests and location. The main characters of the show had already defined their expectations in detail, which helped in the selection of the singles. However, who would visit them was a surprise to them. What came of it?

A documentary soap opera instead of a bikini reality show

There is no doubt that the new TVN format, broadcast immediately after the drama series “Na Wspólnej”, is tailored precisely to the viewer who is already sitting in front of the TV. It should not only give him similar emotions, but also meet his expectations. Unlike the bikini reality show formats, the broadcaster focused on a “documentary soap opera” aimed at an older audience, with the participation of middle-aged characters (the protagonists are between 40 and 53 years old), strongly emphasizing the realism of the situations shown on the screen.

“This isn’t just another dating show about endless picnics and beach trips. It’s a story about real-life relationships, where the everyday rarely gives way to a fairy tale. – the narrator assures at the beginning of the program. Dorota Wellman recently promoted the new TVN program in a similar tone: “This is no longer a beach program where women run around in bikinis and men grease their chests and play love games with each other. We show a little bit of real life…”

A format adapted to the public’s taste

How do these statements compare to reality? After airing the first four episodes of “B&B Love,” familiar elements from similar, tried-and-true formats like “Marriage at First Sight” are immediately noticeable.. Because although none of the participants in the new TVN show decides to make marriage vows to a stranger, they decide to take a “blind” flight to the other side of the world. The cameras – just like in the reality wedding – capture what viewers like most: the first mutual reactions of strangers who have decided to live together, as well as their often contradictory feelings and statements.

Looking at how the single people who visit the protagonists’ guesthouses are put to work, one immediately thinks of the TVP program “O Fazendeiro Quer Mulher” and the visits of the candidates to the farms, where they face the typical work of a farmer. In “B&B Love” we have a similar approach, but in a different “industry”. The single people who come to stay as guests also have to carry out specific tasks assigned to them by the characters: mowing the lawn in front of the guesthouse (Klaudia at Klemens’ house), going to get supplies (Artur at Renata’s house) or sweeping the beach bar (Kateryna at Wojtek’s house).

In addition to the elements that viewers already know and like, the new format is packaged in an interesting context that fits in with current trends: travel and business tourism. In an era when Poles are very interested not only in traveling abroad, but also in buying property abroad, we have heroes who decided to make this change in their lives some time ago. In the new TVN production, the exotic landscapes and the characters’ stories about the customs and culture of the local population, or about their journey to life in exile, are also an important asset. In addition to the fact that the characters in the production are interesting, they do not seem completely unrealistic and TVN viewers can identify with them to a certain extent. Even though they are active on social media because they run a business, they are not overloaded with “celebrities”. Is this a ready-made recipe for another TVN success?

The “Hidden Truth” actor on the new TVN show

The charm breaks a little when we take a closer look at some of the singles. These are definitely less anonymous. The assurances of the creators of “B&B Love” about the authenticity of the events we see on the screen contrast slightly with the participation of actor Artur Główka, known to viewers for episodic roles in TV series (“Barwy Happiness”, “Na Wspólnej” or “Uhidta Truth”).

Artur is Renata’s first guest, who lives in Calabria, and introduces himself to the audience and the heroine as an administrative specialist who works daily at the school, not counting his previous appearances on screen. It’s a shame, because even though he worked as an amateur actor, he could have noticed. Now we can only wonder if he appeared on the show “B&B Love” professionally or privately.

What are the participants of “B&B Love” looking for?

As with other programs of this type, the intentions of those who apply are always questionable. Because although the official goal of the program is to find love, the only thing that is certain is to find publicity for you and your business. Some people are already using it, like Alex, who posted a specific offer of his tourist services on his social networks. In turn, Natalia Osińska, the second of the single women who visited Wojtek in Zanzibar (in this case, the associations with a tourist scammer, although they come to mind, are wrong), owns a jewelry brand sold online, with a large number of followers on Instagram (14.9 thousand).

Additional observers certainly won’t hurt Klemens’ candidate Klaudia, who is active on TikTok and Instagram, or Zbigniew, who visited Alex in Zanzibar in the spring and tried her luck in big politics in the fall, running for parliament on the Confederation lists.

For now, the singles who visit the B&B premises seem much less credible than the characters in the production themselves. When asked about the reasons for participating in the program, the latter rarely spoke about love, but more about the desire to experience a television adventure. In this case, the titular love seems more like an addition than the essence of the program, which, however, does not change its appeal.

“B&B Love” will be broadcast until October 31st. The soap opera airs from Monday to Thursday, at 8:50 pm, on TVN.
