The image presented by Matt Reeves in 2022’s “Batman” was well received by many fans of the DC Comics universe. The perspective of the young and angry Bruce Wayne (played by Robert Pattisnon), who is just beginning his adventure as the Dark Knight, and the return of Detective Batman are a kind of nod from the director to fans of Batman’s comic book adventures. The atmosphere of a dark Gotham, full of crime and corruption, felt throughout the film was a tribute to the prototype of the city in comics, where chaos was visible at every step. The director also managed to create new and interesting incarnations of iconic Batman opponents such as the Riddler (played by Paul Dano) and the Penguin (played by Colin Farrell).
Matt Reeves Wants to Create a New Batman Trilogy
Matt Reeves, perhaps influenced by the already cult trilogy about the adventures of the Dark Knight directed by Christopher Nolan, announced in an interview with Steve Weintraub of Collider that his vision always included a trilogy, and “The Batman Part 2” will be the next step in building his vision of the world of the dark avenger. Reeves also announced changes regarding the upcoming spin-off series “Penguin”, starring Colin Farrell. Initially, the series was intended to be an introduction to the second part of Batman, but over time it evolved into a standalone production that will tell the story of how Oswald Cobblepot came to power in Gotham’s criminal underworld. The creator of the series “Penguin”, Lauren LeFranc, also admitted in one of the interviews that in her work, in addition to the story of the titular mafia boss, she wants to develop the vision of Gotham created by Revees.
New Batman: What kind of Gotham does Matt Reeves want to create?
Reeves has also said in interviews that he wanted to be as realistic as possible in his vision of the Dark Knight’s city. “It was very important to me to find a way to translate these mythical beings so that Gotham felt like a place in our world. We can approach the limits of the fantastic, but we will never completely surpass them. We care about the credibility of the world presented – explains the director. It is worth remembering that Christopher Nolan also focused on realism in his vision of Gotham.
