Hours after confirming the dismissal of coach Martín Varini, Athletico (PR) announced the signing of Lucho González, the new commander of the red and black team. The Argentine will make his debut this Thursday, in the duel against Racing, from Argentina, the second leg of the quarter-finals of the Copa Sudamericana.
Lucho’s work is nothing new to his fans. For Furacão, he played between 2016 and 2021, when he retired, having played 164 games, with 11 goals and six assists.
The following year, Lucho intensified his preparation to become a football coach, having made his debut as assistant coach to Alberto Valentim in the Furacão first team in February 2022, at the invitation of Paulo Autuori.
The Argentine asked to leave Athletico in April 2022, due to the dismissal of Alberto Valentim. In August of the same year, he signed as coach of Ceará, where he worked for two months alongside Juca Antonello. In 2023 he went to Internacional, to become Eduardo Coudet’s assistant.
Athletico (PR) faces Racing, from Argentina, next Thursday (26), at 9:30 p.m., at the Presidente Perón stadium, in Avellaneda. Having won 1-0 in the first leg, Furacão even managed to draw and advance to the semifinals of the Copa Sudamericana.
