According to the Attorney General’s Office, the number of deaths in the holiday resort of Acapulco and in other parts of Guerrero state has risen to 15, President Andrés Manuel López Obrador wrote on Sunday in the online service X. According to authorities, one person has been killed. Another person died in neighboring Oaxaca state.

Hurricane Otis destroyed Acapulco Beach Park a year ago. Now the Pacific Coast holiday resort has been flooded again. Thousands of people were forced to resort to emergency shelters.

John made landfall on Tuesday as a Category 3 hurricane and dumped heavy rains in the three states of Guerrero, Oaxaca and Michoacán.
