Following the FDA’s authorization of a new Hearing Aid mode for the AirPods Pro 2 last week, Apple has another wearable in a similar situation today: Sleep apnea detection for the Apple Watch is now FDA-certified.
The feature will work with Apple Watch Series 9, Series 10, and Ultra 2. The Apple Watch Series 10 will be released on September 20. The feature will be part of watchOS 11, which is scheduled to launch today.
Once enabled, it requires sleep tracking data from ten nights over a 30-day period to determine if you may have sleep apnea. It also offers insight into sleep disorders.
If the function suspects that you may have sleep apnea, it will prompt you to seek a formal diagnosis from your doctor. Sleep apnea causes your breathing to become shallow and/or stop repeatedly at night, and can also cause insomnia, headaches, daytime sleepiness, and other conditions.
Samsung earlier this year received FDA approval to detect sleep apnea in its Galaxy Watch.
