Apple is expected to introduce 2nm chips next year, just ahead of the iPhone 17 launch. Recent reports have revealed that they may be manufactured by TSMC, but the Taiwanese chipmaker has been struggling with production.

The Cupertino company has reserved the entire 2-nanometer capacity of TSMC, but due to the low efficiency of the new technological process, the SoC will only be introduced in the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max models.

According to reports from Taiwan, the chipmaker has unveiled a new product but still needs help from other suppliers to get the chip ready for installation in smartphones.

The partners have to provide materials, equipment, silicon intelligence (IP) and electronic device design automation (EDA), which has gradually developed into a “group struggle” situation, Chou News Agency reported.

iPhone 17 Pro will be the first with a chipset built on TSMC's 2nm process

The 2nm line is already installed at the Baoshan plant and will begin trial production in the third quarter of 2024, three months ahead of schedule. TSMC is expected to supply the N2 process to Apple and Nvidia, which will help the company overtake Samsung and Intel in the chipmaking market.
