Apple plans to produce more iPhone models this year, mainly Pro and Pro Max

The upcoming iPhone 16 series is expected to debut on September 10 this year, if the reports are true of course. But what will the mix of Pro and non-Pro look like? Well, Electric obtained supply chain information revealing Apple’s production plans.

Apple plans to produce more iPhone models this year, mainly Pro and Pro Max

Initially, the OEM will produce about 90.1 million iPhones, slightly more than last year’s target of 86.2 million. As before, the company plans to produce more Pro Max models, which will account for 37% of the total, or 33.2 million units.

That’s up significantly from the 24.2 million iPhone 15 Pro Max units last year. Regular iPhone 16 Pro units are expected to reach 26.6 million (30%), up from 21.8 million for the 15 Pro last year.

Non-Pro variants will account for 33% of total production, with the standard iPhone 16 seeing a slight increase from 21.8 million units to 24.5 million (27%), while the iPhone 16 Plus will see just 5.8 million (6%) produced. It’s the only model to see a reduction. For comparison, the planned production of the iPhone 15 Plus last year was 8.5 million.

Of course, plans can change based on demand, but it’s clear that demand for the Plus model is decreasing with each passing year, so rumors that Apple will replace it with another version of the iPhone in the future may turn out to be true.

The increase in iPhone 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max production heralds an increase in Apple’s revenue, as these are the most expensive models in the company’s lineup and may in fact generate higher profit margins as well.
