The state of Amazonas has four council candidates with outstanding arrest warrants, according to a survey conducted by news site G1.
All four are running for public office in rural municipalities. In Santa Isabel do Rio Negro, candidate Finkler (Avante), was the target of a preventive arrest warrant for bodily harm issued on April 11, 2024. Avante’s general secretary in Amazonas, Wagno Oliveira, reported having no knowledge of the candidate.
In Nova Olinda do Norte, Guga do Volei (Novo), he was the target of an arrest warrant for retirement issued on February 27, 2023.
In the municipality of Parintins, Prof. Viviane Silva (PRD) was the target of a preventive arrest warrant for robbery issued on January 17, 2023.
In Barcelos, Henrique Silva (PRD) was the target of a pension arrest warrant issued on August 26, 2024.
The last three people mentioned did not speak.
The law states that an open arrest warrant does not prevent a candidate from running in an election. The ban only applies to those convicted or by a panel of judges.
