More details are coming out about the attempted attack on Donald Trump. At the same time, concerns are growing about political violence in the campaign. Trump is blaming the people, and US President Biden is calling for moderation.
The armed suspect appeared to have been in the bushes at Trump’s golf club for nearly 12 hours. At least that’s what the FBI’s current assessment of his cellphone location data suggests. It wasn’t until Sunday afternoon that Trump’s security guards noticed him and the barrel of his weapon.
At a news conference in West Palm Beach, Florida, Ronald Lowe, the current Secret Service director, said an officer was checking the area when he found an armed man and immediately shot him. Lowe further clarified that the suspect did not clearly know the former president and did not fire at the officers before running away.
Discussion on security
The second assassination attempt on Trump has reignited debate over his safety. Former US presidents do not enjoy the same personal protection as the current president.
Lowe justified the golf game Sunday afternoon by saying it was not on Trump’s official schedule, so there was no extensive search of the golf club in advance. Palm Beach County Sheriff Ric Bradshaw stressed that security at Mar-e-Lago is currently at its highest level.
Criticism after the first Assassination attempt
The Secret Service has come under fire since the attempted assassination of Trump while he was campaigning in Pennsylvania on July 13. Trump was shot in the ear. Officials have been charged with failing to do so, and Kimberly Cheatle, who was then head of the Secret Service, was forced to resign.
Since then, the Secret Service has stepped up security measures at the direction of President Joe Biden, said interim Secret Service Director Ronald Lowe. “The increased vigilance and swift action was textbook,” he said. He couldn’t be more proud of his people.
Meanwhile, the arrested suspect was brought before a magistrate. Charges including illegal possession of a firearm were filed. Additional charges will follow as the FBI learns more about his background and motive.
Request for arbitration
Meanwhile, many politicians from both parties have warned that hate and campaigning must stop in the United States. President Biden also said at a campaign meeting in Pennsylvania that political violence has no place in America.
Trump, on the other hand, tried to use the incident politically for his own benefit. He blamed Kamala Harris and Biden for the assassination attempt. ~
