AI, a fundamental tool in cancer research, experts say

The National Center for Cancer Research (CNIO) revealed that artificial intelligence (AI) will mean “change paradigm” in scientific research, particularly in the field of cancer.

At the celebration of World Cancer Research Day, María Blasco, director of the research center, highlighted that AI is already a tool to address this. detect and diagnose the disease, as well as in the development of new drugs.

Blasco emphasized that “the surest way to cure cancer is research (…) in all possible fields,” which is why the CNIO has a field dedicated to metabolism, metastasis, clinical research and biocomputingwho “use AI” in their work.

Thanks to the application of artificial intelligence, experts have been able to carry it out analysis genomics, predict protein structure and explore new therapeutic targets, which allow us to consider new treatments, but also to better understand tumor evolution.

“CNIO’s evolution has always been adapting to changes in scientific and new technological paradigms. “AI is one of these new paradigms,” the institute said.

Finally, Alfonso Valencia, from the Barcelona Supercomputing Center, added that AI is currently facilitating the management of large volume data, helping to detect and diagnose cancer.
