Netflix today released the first teaser for Caramelo, a new Brazilian production starring actor Rafael Vitti. The film follows a young chef and his partner, a caramel mongrel.

The caramel dog is a Brazilian cultural icon and chances are you’ve come across one. This breed lives in the “collective imagination” of society, we always see them on the streets, in someone’s backyard, in bars, or just walking alone.

The breed is so representative of Brazil, it was even the subject of a public petition in 2020 to print two hundred reais banknotes.

The official synopsis of the film

“Pedro is a headstrong chef who is on the verge of realizing his dream of running a restaurant when an unexpected diagnosis turns his life upside down. With the help of a friendly mutt, Caramel, he embarks on an exhilarating journey of rediscovery, finding meaning and inspiration in the present.”

Caramelo doesn’t have a release date yet. Watch the teaser.
