The federal government wants to provide about 400 million euros in short-term military support to Ukraine. This is according to a letter from the Ministry of Finance to the budget committee of the German Bundestag, which has been made public by German media. The money will be used to purchase military equipment for the Ukrainian army, especially air defense, drones and protective equipment. Finance Minister Florian Tonkar (FDP), who signed the letter, warned that “if Ukraine does not significantly increase its material support, it risks capitulating in the defense struggle.”

According to the Federal Ministry of Finance, by the end of the year, Ukraine will need about 1.42 billion euros to support the country. This is 397 million euros more than the budget plan, so it will need to be approved by the Bundestag. FDP member Karsten Klein has already expressed his support for the project. “We will keep our promises,” the budget committee member assured. “Ukraine urgently needs additional military supplies and equipment to protect freedom and our values.”
