Sony introduced the Xperia 1 VI and Xperia 10 VI on May 15 and made fans of small flagships wait for the Xperia 5 VI. However, this model may have been rejected.
According to a recent press conference attended by two Sony CEOs, Sony will not release a new model in the Xperia 5 series. K-Tai watchInstead, Sony plans to continue selling last year’s Xperia 5 V, a decision that will apparently affect both domestic and global markets.
What happened? The move is reportedly due to a change in consumer spending habits. Sony has seen an increased number of Xperia 5 V users switching to the 1 VI, compared to the relatively small number of 5 Series users switching to the 1 V in the previous generation (shown in red below).
No decision has been announced regarding Sony’s marketing strategy for 2025. There is a chance that the 5 Series will return, with some tuning to better adapt to new market requirements. However, such plans are known only internally.
