In his speech, Rafał Trzaskowski referred to the shocking case of the tragic accident on Trasa Łazienkowska. “Our thoughts and hearts are with the families of the victims and those injured in this accident. Such situations cannot happen on our roads, which is why we continue to work on specific solutions,” the mayor of the capital wrote.
He announced that, in consultation with relevant ministers and other local governments, a draft law on speed cameras would be prepared “so that those who manage the entire network of roads and highways in the city have the right to install them themselves.”
Trzaskowski also announced that Warsaw would allocate further funds for additional patrols by traffic police, including the prosecution of organizers and participants of night car rallies. “There is no permission for our streets to become race tracks,” he stressed, adding that “discussions on this matter are already underway with the Warsaw Police Headquarters.”
In addition, the Mayor of the capital city recommended doubling funds to improve the safety of highway infrastructure. This means that existing funds will be credited with an additional PLN 164 million, he explained.
