– The functioning of the Academy of Justice raises our doubts – said Minister of Justice Adam Bodnar in May.
Deputy head of the ministry Maria Ejchart echoed him, saying that despite its multi-million dollar budget, the university did not meet the needs of the Prison Service.
– As a result of legislative changes, the school that trained prison officers and prison service agents became an academy that served as a training ground for political justice officials. Today it is a school that does not train officers, Ejchart argued.

The Academy of Justice was established in 2018 and has changed its name twice. Its statutory purpose is to educate and educate prison service employees and employees of justice administration bodies. As of 2023, the rector-commander of this university is a 31-year-old lawyer, Dr. Michał Sopiński. Previously, he was an activist for Solidarna Polska and an employee of the ministry under Zbigniew Ziobro. His term of office does not end until 2028 and, due to the way the rector is appointed by the university senate, the Ministry of Justice cannot dismiss him. Furthermore, the university authorities are not subordinate to either the Minister of Justice or the Director General of the Prison Service.
The lack of subordination is another accusation that, in addition to doubts about the quality of education, the ministry raises against universities. Thus, in May, the ministry’s management announced profound changes in the functioning of the Academy of Justice.
