A man in his sixties was arrested on the A7 motorway after refusing to stop at police roadblocks and driving in the wrong direction for several dozen kilometres.
A 60-year-old man drove in the wrong direction for about 60 kilometres on highway 17 south of Lyon. The man was arrested after trying to set up a roadblock on the night of Friday into Saturday, according to police. Refusal to comply and forced blockade
At around 3:30am, the driver was seen to have lost his bearings, making several U-turns on the A7 before finding himself travelling in the wrong direction. Joined by highway patrol officers and police who had ordered him to stop, the driver at the wheel of the Peugeot 207 refused to comply. He crashed into the first vehicles coming towards him and then forced his way through the barrier set up at the Vienne Reventin toll booth.
A complex arrest
After several maneuvers and with the help of patrol officers, the gendarmes managed to stop his mad dash near the town of Chasse-sur-Rhône. Although the car was stopped, the man, who was driving without a license, continued to give the police a hard time. Since he refused to get out of the car, they had to break his window to arrest him.
