A children’s sleep expert has shared a unique chair trick that helps parents get their children to sleep effortlessly. Putting a child to sleep can be one of the most daunting tasks for parents. From gentle techniques to completely ignoring their cries, parents often resort to different methods to help their little ones drift off.
Recently, the simple technique has received praise from parents, with one TikTok user even claiming it “saved my sanity.” The expert says that in the method, the chair is gradually moved out of the children’s room when the child becomes more comfortable falling asleep alone. Ashley Hainsworth, cot and bunk bed specialist at Cuckoland, explains the process: “The chair method is designed to reduce children’s anxiety after being separated from their parents at bedtime.
“You start by sitting in a chair next to the bed, providing comfort and reassurance. Each night you move the chair a little further until you are finally outside the room. This gradual withdrawal helps the child feel safe and increases his confidence. He falls asleep independently.”
This method is gaining popularity due to its gentle yet well-organized approach to overcoming bedtime challenges. However, Ashley insists the key is patience and consistency.
“It’s not a quick fix, but it adds a sense of security and routine. Parents should be calm and persistent, as children may initially resist changes,” she explains.
In addition to the chair method, Ashley recommends keeping the same bedtime every night. He concludes: “Consistency is key in bedtime routines. A predictable sequence of activities, such as a bath, brushing teeth and reading a story, signals to the child that it is time to calm down. This ritual helps reduce anxiety and prepares the child’s mind and body for sleep.”
