On October 7, 2024 The day revealed that a burned and “very mutilated” man’s body was found in a tunnel running under a highway not far from the area where Laura Trapeniers’ body was found. The case was immediately contacted by the Spanish authorities. But quick checks revealed it wasn’t Mark Olbrechts.

“The Belgian authorities told us almost immediately that it was not Mark. Investigators are yet to compare the DNA, but it was clear from the start that this was not my uncle,” explained Mark’s cousin, interviewed by Newspaper.

Three suspects

Who is this new victim and why was she there? Investigators looking for an answer to this question have already arrested three suspects in June: two in Belgium and one in Tenerife. According to 7sur7the first, a father and his son, were neighbors of the couple in Mons, Belgium. The third is an Italian who lived in Mons before settling on the island of Tenerife. A CCTV camera reportedly captured him outside the couple’s property shortly before they disappeared.
