A monument to Russian poet Alexander Pushkin will be demolished in Odessa.
This was stated by the director of Odessa OVA, Oleg Kiper, in an interview with Mіsta Sili.
The journalist asked the official if they planned to tear down the Pushkin monument. Kiper said that an order for the demolition of this monument and others has already been signed.
“Yes, it is also available, there is a signature for its demolition. Today all the letters on the demolition of these monuments have been sent,” said the head of the OVA of Odesa.
He did not reveal any other details.
On August 23, Odessa Mayor Gennady Trukhanov said that the Pushkin monument in the city cannot be demolished, as it is included in the UNESCO register.
“Today, some European delegations, European tourists, are coming here. They know who Pushkin is and they say that he was there, worked and wrote some of his works. By the way, he was here in exile. Moreover, when we submitted our motivational dossier to UNESCO, we indicated, and UNESCO knows this, that this is a cultural heritage,” said the mayor.
