Russian media, including RBC, described the attack as “one of the most massive in history.”
Drones flew to Moscow
Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said at least 14 drones targeting the capital were shot down in the Ramenskoye, Podolsk, Domodedovo, Lubertiv and Kolomna districts. According to the state news agency Tass, a 46-year-old woman died in Ramenskoyeand several other people were injured.
Moscow’s Zhukovsky, Sheremetyevo, Domodedovo and Vnukovo airports have been closed due to the drone attack, local media reported.
Images shared by the ASTRA Telegram channel, run by independent Russian journalists, show smoke near Zhukovsky International Airport.
There have been no reports of casualties in other Russian regions targeted by Ukrainian drones.
The attacks came after Ukraine targeted eight Russian regions with drones on August 14. and missiles. The pro-war Telegram channel Fighterbomber, associated with the Russian Air Force, reported that three Russian military airfields were attacked by Ukraine.
Ukrainians target air bases
Russian air bases have been repeatedly attacked by Ukraine during the war that began in February 2022. Kiev claims that Russian military bases are legitimate targets.
The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) and the Main Intelligence Directorate of Ukraine (HUR) typically take responsibility for attacks on Russian territory.
The Ukrainian Air Force said Tuesday that Russian forces fired two missiles and 46 Shahed attack drones overnight.
— Russian occupiers launched an attack using an Iskander-M ballistic missile from occupied Crimeaa Kh-31P anti-radar missile from the airspace over the Black Sea and 46 Shahed drones (launched from Kursk and Yeisk in Russia).
