A judge has made a decision regarding the sentence against Donald Trump

In a post on his social media platform, Truth Social, Trump praised the judge for indicating that a verdict would only be imposed if the judge denied his lawyers’ request to overturn the jury’s verdict. “This case should be legally dismissed as we prepare for the most important election in the history of our country,” the Republican presidential candidate stressed.

Trump is the first former US president to be convicted in a criminal case – in May, a jury found him guilty of charges of falsifying financial records to conceal a PLN 130,000 payment to Stormy Daniels, a former porn actress who was paid in exchange for keeping quiet about her relationship with Trump.

There may be no verdict in the Donald Trump case. His defense lawyers want the jury’s verdict to be overturned.

A motion to overturn the jury verdict in the case will be heard by a judge on November 12. In their motion, Trump’s supporters cited the Supreme Court’s ruling that found that the president cannot be held criminally liable for actions taken in the performance of his duties, and evidence related to the president’s actions in the performance of his duties cannot be used in criminal cases, even if those matters concern activities unrelated to the performance of the president’s duties.

However, the prosecution argues that the case of the payment of money to Stormy Daniels has no connection with Trump’s term as president and therefore there is no reason to invalidate the jury’s verdict.

The penalty for falsifying financial records is up to four years in prison, although judges usually impose a fine or suspended prison sentence in such cases.
