Much of the country will see rain this weekend. According to the National Institute of Meteorology (Inmet), intense rainfall is expected to be recorded in the central-west and south-east, with an expected volume of around 100 mm per day.
The forecast calls for wind gusts above 60 km/h, many thunderstorms, with the possibility of hail, mainly for the central-west and southeast areas of the country, as a low pressure area (lower) associated with cold air in the middle levels of the atmosphere is getting stronger.
According to Inmet, the low-pressure area is helping to channel moisture that could bring significant rain and possibly gusty winds across much of the country, covering a strip that runs from the northern part of the southern region to the southern part of the Amazon Basin and also west from the Northeast region.
This Friday (18/10) instability is gaining strength early in the day, with potentially severe weather in extreme western Santa Catarina, western Paraná and southern Mato Grosso do Sul.
During the day, the most intense instability spreads to the rest of Mato Grosso do Sul, northern Paraná, southern Mato Grosso, Goiás, Triangulo Mineiro and the interior of São Paulo.
In the southern region and the forest zone of Minas Gerais, Serra da Mantiqueira, Vale do Paraíba, coastal São Paulo and the mountainous region of Rio de Janeiro, rainfall amounts of around 100 mm per day are expected.
