3,600 postcards from Doreen before 1945

The city and district archives acquired about 3,600 pre-1945 postcards from one estate. “Given the massive losses of official wartime documents due to the attack on 16 November 1944, these postcards represent invaluable social and historical value for historical research and for archival teaching of local history in schools,” explains Daniel Schulte, Head of the City and District Archives Department.

Authorized actor Wilhelm Lauten, who grew up in Düren, has been collecting the postcards with great care and local knowledge of the city and its areas for more than 35 years. The collection includes about 500 lithographs, folio prints from around 1920 to 1940, high school graduation cards from the 1930s, postcards from restaurants, cafés and hotels that no longer exist, as well as numerous field mails from the First and Second Worlds . Wars. The collection has been offered to the archive for sale by postcard collector Michael Wade.
