A 19-year-old man drowned while trying to swim across a river in Grão-Pará, south of Santa Catarina, on Sunday afternoon (22). The drowning was recorded in the city of Ilha Grande.

The victim was there with five friends, aged between 18 and 21, according to the Military Police. One of them reported to authorities that while trying to cross the river, the young man became disoriented and asked for help, but his friends were unable to save him.

The victim then sank and disappeared into the water. The Fire Department was called and began searching, first, on the surface. About an hour and a half later, a dive team found the young man’s body at about 5:45 p.m.

Finally the victim was rescued in a state of death. The General Expertise Institute (IGP) and the Legal Medicine Institute (IML) were called and were present at the scene. A police report has been registered by the PM.
