He is said to have threatened his ex-fiancée for months and ultimately set her sister on fire – now the 24-year-old defendant wants to speak out about the allegations in court for the first time during the trial. The defense lawyer said his client would provide detailed information before the hearing the following day, Friday (08.30) at the Arnsberg Regional Court.
The prosecutor’s office believes that the 24-year-old Syrian man’s aim in carrying out the fatal attack was to make his ex-fiancee’s family suffer. He couldn’t get over the breakup. The defendant came to his family’s apartment in Menden in Sauerland last March with four cans of petrol. When her sister opened the door, the perpetrator doused her with gasoline and set her on fire, prosecutors said when the charges were read. The 17-year-old suffered such severe burns that he died two weeks later.
