Among the many series about doctors, Grey’s Anatomy appeared in 2005 with an original twist: it tells the story of life in a fictional hospital in Seattle, with a touch of soap opera romance. The protagonist, Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeu), begins the series on her first day at work.
20 years later, Grey’s Anatomy began its 21st season and became the fourth longest-running series. Others: Law & Order: Special Victims Unit (25 seasons), Law & Order (23) and NCIS (21).
It’s been an eventful 20 years so far. Dr. Meredith has narrowly escaped death four times. She’s treated 140 tumors. Each episode takes a month to write, then three weeks of production and two weeks of editing. Ellen Pompeu remains in the cast but no longer appears in all episodes.
After his debut on TV, Grey’s Anatomy It’s one of those series that has done well in the streaming scheme. A full marathon would take more than 100 hours of diagnoses, surgeries, and affairs. The Shonda Rhimes-produced work has racked up 3.6 billion hours of viewing worldwide. The first 19 seasons are available in Brazil on Disney+.
