At around 07:30, a passing regional train hit a freight train parked at the Reitweg railway crossing in Moers-Rheinkamp.
According to police, fourteen people were injured by the force of the impact, three of them seriously. How the incident happened is still unclear. Police are still investigating the exact cause of the accident. According to the federal police, there will probably be no more results until Tuesday.
Rescue and firefighting helicopters on scene
Firefighters, police and rescue workers were called to the crash site, and a rescue helicopter was also deployed.
A traffic accident investigation team is on site.
Due to the closure between Moers and Xanten the route is at stake Number RB31 up to significant delays and train cancellations – according to the operator, possibly throughout the day in both directions. A bus replacement service has been set up.
