In a serious train accident in the Wesel district, 14 people were injured, three of them seriously. A regional train crashed into a parked freight train. The route between Moers and Xanten was closed – there were significant delays.
At around 7:30 a.m., a passing regional train crashed into a freight train parked at the Reitweg railway crossing in Rheinberg. According to police, fourteen people were injured by the force of the impact, three of them seriously. How the incident happened is still unclear.
Firefighters, police and rescue workers were called to the scene, and a rescue helicopter was also deployed. A traffic accident investigation team was on the scene.
Due to the closure between Moers and Xanten, there are significant delays and train cancellations on the RB31 line. A bus replacement service has been set up. The route at Rheinkamp train station is currently closed in both directions and, according to a fire brigade spokesman, it will probably last for several more hours.
